Survey Copilot

Creating a survey that people actually want to fill out is harder than it looks. The goal is to strike the right balance: asking clear, meaningful questions that are interesting and concise. It’s easy to overthink it, and before you know it, you’re stuck staring at a blank form. Survey Copilot helps with that.

During Early Access, it’s available to all clients who choose to participate. After the official rollout, it will be included in Boost plans and above. You can use it to generate a survey from scratch with AI or refine an existing one. Think of it as an extra brain that helps with both structure and content.

How to Enable and Access

Open your survey tool and go to the survey creation or overview page. Look for the "Enable Survey Copilot" option and turn it on. If you don’t see this option, your account might not be part of Early Access or Boost plan. Once enabled, the Copilot panel will open, and you can start interacting with the AI.

Creating a New Survey

If you’re unsure where to begin, Copilot can generate a first draft. Click Create new and select AI generated. You’ll need to provide at least 11 characters as a prompt. A specific prompt works best, but if you’re not sure yet, something broad like End of Trial Feedback will still give you a solid starting point. You can copy and paste marketing or product requirements into the prompt, allowing the AI to generate a survey based on them.

Once you submit your prompt, Survey Copilot will generate a complete survey, including various types of questions such as NPS, numeric scales, or open-ended responses. It will even break it down for you in detail, explaining the purpose of each question to ensure you understand why it's included.

After the AI generates your survey, editing is easy. You can simply click on any question or response option to change, delete, or add something new.

Editing Existing Surveys

Survey Copilot is not only useful for creating surveys from scratch but also for refining your existing ones. It doesn’t just generate new ideas for you, but it can also modify questions and answers based on your specific prompts. Currently, Survey Copilot works only with small surveys.

To get started, simply open the survey you want to work on, then open the Copilot by clicking on "Let's make your survey shine." From there, you can start making edits and improvements with ease.

You can prompt the AI to add smileys, change the background or text colors, or even provide custom color codes. However, the AI cannot handle more complex tasks such as setting up branching logic or advanced rules. For those features, you will need to configure them manually, as they require specific conditions and logic that the AI cannot automatically generate.

However, keep in mind that these style changes will only apply to the current question unless you specify that you want them applied to all questions in the survey.

If you're looking for improvements or new ideas, you can ask the AI to brainstorm for you, and then have it implement those suggestions. It doesn’t only come up with ideas for you to include, but it can also edit the questions and answers based on your prompt. Essentially, it does the job for you, saving you time by automating the process instead of having to manually tweak each question.

Reverting Changes

Every AI-driven change is reversible. If you make a change and later decide it wasn’t quite right, don’t worry. Survey Copilot lets you revert to a previous version of the survey.

Every time you make a change, you can step back through the version history and undo it. If you’re unsure, click Peek at this point to view the version before the changes. If you decide you want to keep your changes, just select Cancel. But if you want to revert to that previous version, opt for Revert to this point. This will restore the survey to its earlier state, and the chat history tied to those changes will be deleted.

Current Limitations

Here are some things you cannot obtain with the Survey Copilot, yet:

  • No Automatic Branching: Conditional logic or branching must be configured manually.
  • No Automated Scheduling & Publishing: You still need to manually schedule and publish your survey.
  • No Automated Segmentation: Survey Copilot will recommend strategies but will not configure segmentation for you.
  • Chat history isn’t saved: If you leave and come back, the previous AI chat history will be lost, so you can’t revert to prior steps.
  • Requires Human Validation: AI suggestions are helpful starting points but may need fine-tuning to match your exact goals.

Best Practices

Define Your Goal Clearly

The more context you provide (e.g., product details, intended audience), the more tailored the AI suggestions will be.

Use Short, Clear Prompts

Break down your requests into smaller tasks so Survey Copilot can deliver more precise suggestions.

Review & Refine

Always review AI-generated content to ensure it aligns with your brand voice and objectives.

Document Manual Steps

Keep track of scheduling, branching logic, or segmentation settings separately until these features become available in Survey Copilot.
